As IABC Victoria seeks its next round of leaders, we spoke with a couple of current Board members to ask them why they initially joined the Board and what they’ve gotten out of it.

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, there’s still time to put your name forward to join IABC Victoria’s award-winning Board.

Ivan Levacic
Brand Activation Manager, City West Water
IABC Victoria Vice President

I wanted to join the IABC Board to be re-inspired by what communications can do.

I wanted to be a part of the leadership of an internationally recognised Victorian community of practice, to learn from the best in our profession and to share experiences with generous, wonderful people.

Kate Gore
Senior Communications Advisor, Telstra
IABC Victoria Corporate Membership Chair

I nominated to join the IABC VIC Board because I wanted to broaden my network, learn more about best practice communications and help my company – Telstra – get more out of its corporate membership.

Being on the Board has definitely exceeded my expectations. The IABC Victoria community is fantastic, I’ve got to know some really fabulous comms professionals through my Board role that have helped me broaden my knowledge as well as being genuine and warm people. I’ve also learnt new skills around what it takes to make a valuable contribution to the Board and am keen to consolidate these learnings when I return in 2017. For me the standout this year was the Gold Quills Award dinner, the atmosphere and celebration of some fantastic achievements made it a really memorable event.

Christopher Whitefield
Communications Manager, Plenary Group
IABC Victoria Treasurer

As well as expanding my professional network, being on the IABC Victoria board provides exposure to the workings of a professional association – exposure that is really valuable to up-and-coming professionals. I get to work with likeminded professionals who are genuinely interested in improving the standing of the communication function within their organisations and the industry as a whole. It’s been a successful 2016, and I look forward to an even greater 2017.

Cerise Paul-Ingai
Senior Communications Advisor, Australian Taxation Office
IABC Victoria Education Chair

I joined the IABC Victoria Board to make connections and contribute to thought-leadership in the industry. Being on the Board is a great leadership experience. I’ve expanded my networks, spoken at events, and met leading communicators from around the world. I’ve gained new perspectives, creative ideas, and opportunities.
