I think it is reasonably accurate to say that it is commonplace for organisations to ‘do more with less’ to maximise productivity and performance. One of the key enablers of this pillar is employee engagement. The response to Russell Grossman’s ‘Engage for Success’ seminars earlier this month reflects the strong level of interest in employee engagement across organisations in Australia and New Zealand. This month’s newsletter expands on this theme.


Communications Excellence

At international and local levels our recent focus has been upon excellence in communications with entries for the Gold Quill Awards closing on 24 March.

For those of you who entered I’m sure you would have learnt from the process. Aside from being able to write a concise entry, there is also the insight into the level of analytical and strategic thinking, the creative implementation, and evaluation that is required to produce high quality work. Best of luck to all of you.

Over the next few weeks the Blue Ribbon Panels will be assessing Gold Quill entries across four global locations. This will include judging in Melbourne and Sydney. Our thanks go out to those involved for their commitment, expertise and time.

We are currently in the process of finalizing our Awards Gala event where we will celebrate communications excellence with the IABC Victoria Bronze Quill winners. The date has been set for the evening of Wednesday 21 May. So please mark that date in your diary and look out for further details shortly.



With the upgrades to the IABC IT system there have been a few technical hiccups that have been related to membership renewals. Some of you have let us know that you have not received or noticed the renewal emails from IABC international and have subsequently had your membership lapse. So whilst the new system is being implemented, a new electronic renewal process will be in place. Please look out for membership renewal emails from IABC international – expect that two months and one prior to your membership renewal.

Some of you may have also changed circumstances such as new roles, new names or new emails. So we can stay in contact could you please update your details by visiting the IABC Member Centre and clicking “Manage my profile” in the upper right hand corner to update member information.

If there are five or more people within your organisation that are interested in membership then you will qualify for a corporate member rate. IABC has enhanced the corporate membership program to offer a low flat rate per person based on the size of your group. Now members can join your corporate group at any time during the year.

There are a number of events that you should definitely come along to over the next few months. On Thursday 10 April ‘Meet the Journalists’ will provide you with an opportunity to hear about how media is shaping public perceptions and have a conversation with them on we can improve expectations gap between communication practitioners and media. This event will be a sell out so please get in quick.

Also coming up are our Award Gala on Wednesday 21 May and the World Conference 8-11 June in Toronto.
