Student at Deakin University
Tell us about what you study at Deakin University.
I am currently a second year student, studying a Bachelor of Communication, majoring in Digital Media. I chose to study this degree as it’s very diverse, and there are so many career options in this field.
When did you join IABC Victoria?
I am a new IABC member, joining in early September. I joined after attending the student event ‘Bridging the Gap’ which was about learning how to get ahead of the crowd when you leave university.
Why did you become an IABC Victoria member?
IABC is such a fantastic networking platform and I learned so much from the event I attended, about personal branding, internships and connecting with others that I was inspired to join. As a current student, attending events and connecting with career professionals is so important. And I found it was such a great way to get to know other members interested in media and communication. In becoming a member, I have already learned so much. Hearing and learning about other career professionals, and how they got to where they are today is just so inspiring, and really makes me open my eyes to life outside of university.
What do you hope to gain from your membership with IABC Victoria?
I’d like to keep networking with others, and would love to meet more members who are interested in media and communication.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing communication professionals today?
The biggest challenge that communication professionals face today is the lack of connecting with others, and networking. It is such an important part of any career, and is so easy to do!
How do you think IABC Victoria can help communication professionals overcome this challenge?
IABC can help overcome this challenge, as members can mingle, network, and learn from others alike during the many events IABC Victoria holds during the year; especially the mid-week mingles.
