She made it! IABC Victoria Chapter President, Deb Lemcke, reflects on her first month in the new gig – it’s been a biggie – and gives an update on Gold Quills and upcoming events. Welcome, Deb!

Well I am a whole month in to my Presidency and it’s been quite the whirlwind! Deb LemckeI’ve been inaugurated, strategised, profiled and congratulated. But it’s the goodwill, support and enthusiasm sent our way from the wider IABC community that I have appreciated the most. Thank you to everyone who has been in touch!

There are a couple of people that I would particularly like to thank. Our Immediate Past President, Damien Batey, who did a great job steering the ship over the last 12 months. His thoughtful and professional style has left its mark and we are very grateful for his continued guidance this year. The inimitable Zora Artis who for three and a half years gave absolutely everything to IABC Victoria. We are the strong chapter we are today in no small part because of her labor and leadership. And a special shout out to Wayne Aspland who has continued to support us in a very practical way, even after finishing his board term – you rock!

I am so pleased to tell you that your new board is absolutely amazing and already working extremely hard to deliver even more value for our members. We have lots planned for this year and look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in real life at our events or online via twitter and LinkedIn.

Gold Quills

The judging of the Gold Quills has now happened and we eagerly await the results for Victorian entrants. Big congratulations to Monika Lancucki for the awesome job she is doing as the 2016 IABC Gold Quill Awards Chair. Fingers crossed we will have lots to celebrate when they are presented at the World Conference in June. Don’t worry if you can’t make it to New Orleans, we will be having a special event in Melbourne to celebrate everyone’s success.

Future of Work

I strongly encourage you to attend our next event about the future of work and what it might look like to be a comms professional in coming years. We have a carefully selected panel of influential practitioners, and I’m sure we’re going to be in for some interesting conversations. If you haven’t already booked your ticket, we still have a few available online.

The Corporate Affairs Summit (24-25 May) is one of the highlights of the professional events calendar. If you’ve never attended the CAS, you can read a re-cap of the event, or jump on to twitter and search using #theCAS hashtag for a taste of the inspiring ideas that come out of this event. We have an incredible 10% discount code for our members to use (IABC10) – this can be used on top of the Early Bird discount that ends this Friday – so book your tickets now.

We really do value your feedback and engagement, so don’t hesitate to get in touch if there is something you want to talk about, be it sharing a big win, event ideas, industry questions or things you think we could do better.
